You're mostly aware of the cartoon Hetalia? I've seen a few episodes. Personally, it does nothing for me. It's too random to follow.
BUT I have seen many following artists who make comics and drawings that feature the personification of countries to exploit stereotypes.
I hate them.
I hate them. I hate them. I hate them.
I have thought this for years and I'm just saying it. I'm not going to point out any particular artist on here, even though I have some in mind, but I just don't see what's so funny about portraying a select few countries as being only mildly flawed and otherwise adorable, while mocking other countries which the creators of said comics have never set foot on.
If you have never lived in my country you will never understand it. I know America is known for having some loud, boastful citizens who say some ignorant things, but I'm so sick of seeing comics that make my country out to be home of the most ethnocentric morons to ever see the light of day.
Do the people of the world really imagine that there aren't assholes in every country? That there aren't ignorant jackasses who know little to nothing about other cultures and make bad assumptions? Really? There are assholes everywhere, people. Every country has a history colored with both lovely and shameful passages in their textbooks. I don't go to your country and tell you how to feel about your nation's past, do I? YOU DON'T KNOW MY COUNTRY. If you want the world to be more accepting of the varied cultures of the world then you shouldn't create art that reinforces negative stereotypes. How counterproductive can something be?!
I hate these comics. We all make the occasional joke about other countries, sure, but I do not appreciate people who have never even been to my country making assumptions about me and my fellow citizens. My country isn't perfect, but neither is anyone elses'.
And that's all I've got to say about that. I just hate it. I hate ignorance, I hate stereotypes, I hate these freaking comics. Nothing worng with poking fun, but something very wrong with mocking.
